In the Primorsky Territory, the Investigative Committee began a pre-investigation check due to publications about Srednyaya Bay near Nakhodka, where killer whales and beluga whales are kept, according to the website of the regional department of the agency.

In the bay, as animal rights activists said, there are 11 killer whales and 90 beluga whales, which were caught in the summer of 2018. As wrote , the animals are kept by the companies Oceanarium DV, Afalina, White Whale and Sochi Dolphinarium; their value is estimated at $19 million. Novaya Gazeta

Greenpeace warned that 13 killer whales, which are listed in the Red Book of Kamchatka, want to be sold to China. Quotas for catching killer whales, according to the organization, were issued on the basis of a state examination, the legality of which is now being challenged in court.

In early November, representatives of the prosecutor's office decided to check the legality of keeping animals near Nakhodka. Eyewitnesses noticed that the day before the inspection, beluga whales and killer whales began to be taken out of the bay. Despite this, following the visit, as reports PrimaMedia , the prosecutor’s office established that violations were committed when issuing permits for the sale of animals.
