1918 Abdication of Emperor Charles I

100 years ago, on November 12, 1918, Austrian Emperor Charles I of Habsburg abdicated the Austrian throne, and two days later - from the Hungarian throne as King of Hungary. On the same day, November 12, the Republic of German Austria was proclaimed as part of present-day Austria, except for Burgenland, South Tyrol in present-day Italy, southern Carinthia and Lower Styria in present-day Slovenia, and the predominantly German-populated areas of the Czech Republic (the Sudetenland).
