They still got us. For 12 years they were looking for something to grab, every year they arranged various kinds of checks, they did not find anything. But on October 25, 2018, the magistrate of section No. 367 of the Tverskoy district of the city of Moscow Shvedova M.E. issued a fine of 22 million 250 thousand rubles to the publisher of The New Times and the online publication newtimes.ru, plus another 30 thousand to the editor-in-chief Evgenia Albats. Of course, we filed a complaint, and of course we will go through all the courts, including the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation and the European Court of Human Rights. And we have no doubt that sooner or later we will get the truth. We simply have to get a protest against this extrajudicial verdict, because otherwise the practice of “legal canned food”, which cancels all statutes of limitations and is in conflict with the laws of the Russian Federation, will become a form of punishment for any media outlet, any NPO, any business that somehow did not please the authorities .

But on November 20, after consideration of our appeal by the same judge of the Tverskoy district, which had already made a negative decision in our case, the counter will turn on: within 60 days we will either pay a fine, or New Times LLC, the publisher of The New Times and the online publication newtimes.ru will be declared bankrupt, its accounts will be blocked, media licenses will be cancelled, access to electronic resources will be closed.
