Members of the European Parliament asked Amazon to remove items with Soviet symbols from sale

27 members of the European Parliament wrote an open letter to the main owner of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, with a request to remove items with Soviet symbols from sale.

They note that this symbolism offends the victims of the Soviet regime, and recall that more than 60 million people suffered from it; about 10 million were deported to camps.

The letter is primarily about T-shirts and other clothes with a hammer and sickle, flags and memorabilia.

• Elements of Soviet symbols have recently become frequently used by fashion designers in their collections. Activists all over the world do not like this: in May they got the German Adidas to stop selling things with Soviet symbols, and in September they disappeared from sale in the American supermarket chain Walmart.
• In three EU countries - Lithuania, Latvia and Hungary - there is a ban on the display of Soviet symbols at public events.
