A suicide bomber set off an explosion at a checkpoint on the outskirts of Grozny, Apti Alaudinov, acting head of the Chechen Interior Ministry, said.
Other people were not injured in the explosion.
According to Alaudinov, the police noticed the “inappropriate behavior” of a young woman approaching the checkpoint and asked her to stop and show her documents, but she did not. Noticing an improvised explosive device on her, the police fired a warning shot, after which “the girl blew herself up,” he said.
According to Interfax sources, the suicide bomber was not a native of Chechnya; presumably, she was from Dagestan.
