The social network VKontakte, in test mode, provides Russian users with the opportunity to download personal data that the company collects about them, TJournal reports , citing representatives of the social network.

An application to download the archive can be submitted in the new section of the social network. VKontakte also allows you to select the category of requested data.

In August, one of the VKontakte users, Nikolai Dyachkov , said that the social network refused to give him data about his own page. However, this right was available to European users - since May, companies operating in the European Union must follow the updated law on personal data. This document allowed users to ask companies for the data they collect about them.

After Dyachkov’s publications, VKontakte promised that Russian users will also be able to contact the support service and find out what data about them is stored on the servers.

In addition, against the backdrop of a discussion of criminal cases under Article 282 of the Criminal Code (inciting hatred or enmity on a social basis) for publications and reposts on VKontakte pages and criticism of itself, the social network promised to declassify statistics on government requests for users and decided to change its privacy policy . “Mediazona” explained whether these changes will help those accused in criminal cases regarding reposts.
