Russia has doubled the size of unemployment benefits. The minimum amount is one and a half thousand rubles

In Russia, the size of unemployment benefits has been increased, and payments have been introduced for unemployed people of pre-retirement age . The corresponding government decree was signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

From January 1, 2019, the minimum unemployment benefit will increase from 850 to 1,500 rubles, and the maximum from 4,900 to 8,000 rubles.

Pre-retirement age citizens who are left without work will receive from 1.5 thousand rubles to 11,280 rubles.

The Ministry of Labor emphasized that this is the most significant increase in unemployment benefits in Russia since 2009.

  • The concept of pre-retirement age appeared in Russian legislation as part of the pension reform. The draft of the unpopular reform was softened by the second reading, in particular, additional social protection measures for people of pre-retirement age were proposed, including criminal liability for unjustified refusal to hire or unjustified dismissal of people of pre-retirement age.
