“Mediazona” collected a million rubles in monthly donations for the work of the portal

On the night of November 19, the Mediazona portal collected 1 million rubles in monthly donations for the work of the editorial office.

As the publication’s editor-in-chief Sergei Smirnov told Takim Dela, the goal of raising a million was set last year when Mediazona launched crowdfunding.

“In recent months, the increase in donations has not been as strong as we would like. But after collecting money, The New Times managed to quickly collect the missing 55 thousand rubles. Thank you very much to everyone who subscribed and shared our posts on social networks,” said Smirnov.

The decision to start crowdfunding was made due to a lack of funds for the work and development of the portal. Mediazona's budget is about 2 million rubles per month. This money goes towards salaries, business trips and office rent in Moscow. A million rubles a month is the minimum required for the editorial office to operate.

Previously, The New Times collected 25 million rubles to pay the fine in just four days. Roskomnadzor fined the publication 22 million 250 thousand for untimely provision of information about monetary financing to the department.

In August, the court fined “7x7” 800 thousand rubles for a video interview in which the speaker discussed the legalization of drugs. The publication announced a fundraiser to pay the fine. The required amount was collected in 28 hours.
