"It's wrong, unpatriotic, it's a scandal." State Duma deputy on the proposal to name Kaliningrad airport after Immanuel Kant

State Duma deputy from Tatarstan Marat Bariyev spoke out against the possible naming of the Kaliningrad airport after the German philosopher Immanuel Kant , writes the publication Business Online.

According to Bariyev, the mention of Kant's name in the "Great Names of Russia" competition insults veterans of the Great Patriotic War. "Veterans believe that this is wrong, unpatriotic, and a scandal. I completely agree. We must understand who the great people are for Kaliningrad," the deputy said.

He explained that Kant’s name should not be included in the competition because the philosopher “cannot be called our compatriot.”

Initially, the public chamber of the Kaliningrad region did not include Kant's name in the list of options for a new name for the Kaliningrad airport. It was included there based on the results of voting on the Great Names of Russia competition website. This option is currently leading in the voting for renaming the airport.

• Earlier, the jury of the Great Names of Russia contest excluded the name of the leader of the Civil Defense group Yegor Letov from the shortlist. It was proposed to name the Omsk airport after him. A petition appeared on the Internet demanding that Letov's name be included in the final vote.
