US imposes sanctions on two Russian companies over Iranian oil supplies to Syria

The US Treasury Department announced the introduction of sanctions against two legal entities and one individual from Russia. According to the department, they are involved in the supply of Iranian oil to Syria.

Sanctions were imposed against the company Global Vision Group and the enterprise Promsyrieimport , as well as the first deputy director of Promsyrieimport Andrey Dogaev. The sanctions regime was changed in relation to the Russian Mir Business Bank.

The US Treasury Department claims that these Russian companies are intermediaries in the supply of oil from Iran to Syria. According to US authorities, the money from these supplies goes, among other things, to finance the Hezbollah and Hamas groups, which the US has recognized as terrorist.

• In May 2018, the United States announced its withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal and the resumption of sanctions against the Iranian regime. The restrictions also affect oil exports from Iran.
