Angara region: a leakage of chemical agency took place at a closed enterprise

On the territory of a closed chemical enterprise in Usolye-Sibirsky last night there was a leak of chemical power from a depressurized capacity. This was reported in the Ministry of Emergencies on the Angara.

Specialists of the Usolsk Firefighting and Rescue Garrison were sent to the scene of the accident, who irrigated the cloud of fumes for several hours to stop its distribution. Later, a group of radiation, chemical and biological protection arrived at the place of emergency.

In addition, specialists of the chemical and radiometric laboratory of the ChS Center arrived at the scene of the accident-they found that the leak came from a container of 3 cubic meters, where about 200 kilograms of silicone production waste (sludge) were located. The evaporating substance was the chloride of hydrogen formed with a chemical reaction of waste with snow. Firefighters were able to stop the cloud of fumes when the distance to the nearest residential buildings amounted to about 5 kilometers, the Ministry of Emergencies said .

In early November, the emergency mode was introduced in Usolye-Sibirsky due to the threat of chemical pollution. This happened on the territory of the Usolyechimprom plant closed several years ago due to the massive embezzlement of materials polluted by mercury: according to the mayor of the city of Maxim Toropkin, the property of the former plant, which is infected with chemical waste.

The bankrupt “Usolekhimprom” was engaged in mercury electrolysis for the production of caustic soda. In 1998, the workshop was closed, and the whole enterprise stopped working in 2010. Access to the object is limited, but despite this, people continue to penetrate the site. The city hall said that in the framework of the emergency, they take control of the protection of a closed enterprise. Now there is a search for a security agency that will help strengthen control.

In 2017, it was reported that up to 600 tons of mercury can be concentrated in the metal structures of the workshop. In August 2018, it became known about the initiation of a criminal case on the fact of leakage of chloride chemicals on a site in a state of bankruptcy of the Usolykhimprom enterprise. Unknown, presumably, when trying to cut the metal, turned the tank with containing chlorchmikates on the industrial site. Alarm was declared in the city, residents were recommended not to leave their homes and not to open the windows.
