Teachers at school are poisoned more often than students

About 30% of schoolchildren suffer from bullying, and teachers often either do not pay attention to it, or they themselves initiate it. However, teachers are also poisoned. The study conducted by the Higher School of Economics shows that 70% of teachers to one degree or another collide with bullying.

Bulling is a long -term physical or mental violence against a victim that is not able to defend herself. A complex complex of social, pedagogical and psychological reasons leads to it, the study of which scientists around the world work on the study. However, they usually examine bullying in the school team. But bullying, persecution in relation to teachers becomes much less likely to become the subject of study.

The study, recently conducted by the design laboratory of educational journalism “Twes”, was devoted to the persecution of teachers. According to the head of the laboratory , Alexander Milkus, the problem turned out to be little studied.

Laboratory students compiled a questionnaire for teachers and distributed it through the communities of teachers, social networks and school administrations. It was possible to collect 2800 profiles. This is a large sample, so the study can be considered objective. Teachers from urban and rural, large and small schools from 75 regions of Russia sent their answers. 8% of respondents are men, other women.

It turned out that

Children poison teachers about the same way as their peers. They are also teased, they are invented by offensive nicknames, spread gossip, discuss their personal life - including in social networks.

There is also a “teacher” specificity: schoolchildren ignore their requirements and interfere with the lessons.

As the study showed, secondary school students are engaged in school bullying - from the sixth to the ninth. But when they grow up, the persecution does not end - the next generation of students pick it up: they already realized that this teacher can be treated like this.

Half of the teachers faced threats from students. About 43% - with cyberbulling, that is, with persecution through social networks, 28% complained about offensive comments of an intimate nature. 2 to 5% of teachers reported that they are often faced with persecution.

What depends on whether teachers poison or not? It turned out that neither gender, age, marital status, nor the level of education of the teacher do not affect this. The main factor is the level of income of the teacher.

They are twice as often as a low salary of teachers with a low salary than colleagues with medium or high earnings.

“Those who noted in the questionnaire in the question of material condition the points“ sometimes not enough for food ”or“ enough for food, not enough for clothes ”, that is, poorly look and poorly dressed are much more often subjected to their wealthy colleagues,” comments Alexander Milkus. - It does not help improve the situation and the attitude of parents to poor teachers: not that squeamish, but there is no support from them. And you can probably say that they indirectly provoke grass. ”

In addition, the study showed the dependence between the persecution and the professional burnout of the teacher. The smaller the teacher is satisfied with his life and work, the more often they are poisoned. Or, conversely, they are more often poisoned by those who do not like their work, who are tired and indifferently reporting the laid lesson. And the administration of schools, even if he knows about the problem, usually does nothing to resolve it - they say, this is the problem of unprofessional teacher.

Perhaps that is why teachers who are subjected to bullying rarely turn to for help. The study of the “tower” showed: only about a third of teachers are discussing bullying with colleagues, another third with his family, 13% were addressed to psychologists, and 23% were silently silent.

All this creates a vicious circle: a teacher with a low salary feels powerless and humiliated.

He is dissatisfied with work and life, does not see any prospects, balances on the verge of a nervous breakdown. And when the children check the boundaries of the possible - it breaks off, which leads to increased bullying. So teachers hate and pursue students, students hate and pursue teachers.

Research conclusions show that it is necessary to work in two directions. Firstly, to teach teachers to cope with problems arising in a teenage environment: to organize trainings and conversations for them, to help to understand the essence of bullying and how to stop it. To persuade to share problems with psychologists. And the second is to increase the social status of the teacher and the level of his income. While the teacher feels offended and humiliated, he is a light target.

Is the team more ruthless than the students? School is an aggressive environment. People, educational subjects - you did not choose any of this. Especially teachers. In the 9th grade, a chemist who had just graduated from the university came to us-a boy, to whom colleagues found fault for the lack of a tie: they confused the teacher and students. Punging, lust, stuttering - all this was not the best qualities and so insecure young specialist.

Attempts to take us by authority, jokes about the fact that we are no one in his science, gave the opposite effect -

I admit, I myself participated in this performance.

Naturally, 25 students were stronger than one, albeit an adult, teacher. It is most incredible that all this did not happen by conspiracy: just the class suddenly became a single organism that feels only one goal - to hide the one who is not able to hide us.

After a year of work, the chemist did not pass certification. He was fired, no one heard more about him. However, one of us still recognizes one thing: it was not from evil. Everything happened only because it could happen - there were no obstacles. Maybe,
