The accused of inciting hostility towards the head of Ingushetia was sentenced to 2 years and 11 months in prison

The Magassky District Court of Ingushetia sentenced opposition leader Magomed Khazbiev to two years and 11 months in a colony-settlement, as well as a fine of 50,000 rubles. This was reported by the lawyer of the International Human Rights Group "Agora" Andrey Sabinin, representing the interests of the defendant.

Khazbiev was found guilty of inciting hostility towards the head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, the government, representatives of the judiciary, law enforcement and power structures on the basis of belonging to a social group (part 1 of article 282 of the Criminal Code), as well as insulting a representative of authority (part 1 article 319 of the Criminal Code) and illegal possession of weapons and explosives (part 1 of article 222 and part 1 of article 222.1 of the Criminal Code).

On November 20, the prosecutor requested three and a half years in a colony-settlement for Khazbiev.

The oppositionist connects the criminal prosecution with his professional activities and civic position, and also claims that police officers planted ammunition on him.

• In January 2015, the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Ingushetia suspected the opposition leader and his relatives of stealing cars and possessing weapons. Since then, he has been on the international wanted list. Later, Khazbiev reported that he left the republic because of threats and went to Chechnya, where, according to the "Caucasian Knot", he was provided with state protection.
• Khazbiev was arrested in January as soon as he returned to Ingushetia. At first, there were episodes in his case about illegal possession of weapons, explosives and insulting a representative of the authorities.
• In May, the oppositionist was charged with an extremist article because of the video “Video interview of the leader of the Ingush opposition Magomed Khazbiev for the website GIALGIAYCHE”, which he published on YouTube in 2015. The head of Ingushetia Yevkurov was recognized as the victim in the case. The official claimed that Khazbiev's videos humiliate his honor and dignity, asked to bring the oppositionist to criminal liability, but he never appeared in court.
