Cyprus owns $12 billion debt to VTB

The debt of $12 billion to VTB, which the bank erroneously attributed to the CAR account in its quarterly report , actually belongs to Cyprus, as follows from the corrected statements published by the bank, writes RBC.

Details. The total liabilities of Cypriot residents to VTB amounted to 1.036 trillion rubles. The previous version of the reporting stated that Cyprus received loans in the amount of 234 billion rubles, and the Central African Republic - 802 billion rubles. The Central Bank also corrected the reporting error on its website.

• The new reporting also removed mention of loans issued to another exotic country - the Holy See of the Vatican in the amount of 10.9 billion rubles, which was first noticed by the Fun&Profit Telegram channel.

Context . Earlier, Reuters noticed that VTB Bank's quarterly report contained information about a $12 billion loan to the Central African Republic (six times the country's annual GDP). The bank immediately explained that a technical error had occurred.
