Marriott reported a data breach of 500 million customers. The database contained passport and bank card numbers

Marriott has reported a leak in the customer database of its Starwood hotel chain. 500 million records were compromised.

The data included the names and surnames of the guests, their email addresses, bank card details, passport numbers and dates of birth.

Marriott said that unknown attackers copied data from the database starting in 2014, but this was only discovered last week.

• The largest data breach in history is the Yahoo database hack, which became known in 2016. The attack, which Russian hackers are suspected of being involved in, was carried out three years earlier, and up to three billion accounts were affected by it.
