Participate in the Plugin competition "WordPress Progress"

We invite developers to take part in the competition to create or finalize WordPress Plugins with open code. Non -profit organizations or public initiatives to solve social problems will be able to use plugins.

Offer IT projects (hereinafter referred to as the project), and the jury of the project of the project greenhouse of social technologies (hereinafter referred to as the greenhouse) will choose one best.

The winning project will receive financial support for revision in the amount of 60 thousand rubles.

The deadline for filing an application is until December 15, 2018.

What kind of competition?

• The greenhouse launches a competition of projects that will be implemented in the WordPress ecosystem.
• The authors, developers or initiative groups until December 15, 2018 submit applications for the implementation of the project in the form of plugins for WordPress. These plugins should be installed on the standard WordPress installation, their code should be open, the benefits for non -profit organizations and public initiatives should be described.
• Based on the submitted applications, the greenhouse team selects one winner, draws up an agreement (see template ) for the development or refinement of a project in the amount of 60 thousand rubles. The project is financing by three tranches in the amount of 20 thousand rubles for each tranche listed as the work is performed.
• Until April 1, 2019, the plugin must be developed, tested with the current version of WordPress and published in the WordPress repository. The plugins should have a Russian translation. The launch of a working plugin is a prerequisite. In the description of the plugin, there must be a link that the plugin was created or finalized with the support of the project of the greenhouse of social technologies.
• As a result, the developer receives a useful plugin in his portfolio, many non -profit organizations and public initiatives receive new functionality “out of the box”, which significantly saves time for them.

Who is the competition for?

• The developers of plugins who can themselves realize the idea of ​​WordPress Pligin.
• Employees of non-profit organizations, activists, journalists, bloggers, socially active people, etc., who intend to hire a developer to implement the declared functionality.
• The participants of the competition can only be individuals who are citizens of the Russian Federation who have reached the age of 18 years and older.
• The application can be submitted individually or from the team of developers/initiators.
• Plugins created following the results of the competition will be used by employees of Russian non -profit organizations, social entrepreneurs, individual activists and any caring citizens.

How does this work?

• Suppose you have the idea of ​​a plugin for WordPress, which, in your opinion, can help solve social problems (see below, what tasks we are talking about).
• You fill out an application with a detailed description of the desired functionality and the alleged effect for society.
• After sending the application, you expect the announcement of the winner of the jury.
• In the case of your victory, the representative of the team of the greenhouse will contact you and conclude an agreement where a detailed technical task is prescribed, what needs to be done.
• During the implementation of your project, the greenhouse team gives you a development feedback.

What technological solutions can win?

We accept applications for the development of two types of plugins:

1) with a highly specialized public or non -profit orientation (for example, a plugin for the output of the base of stray animals);
2) with wide functionality that can be used for public tasks (for example, a plugin to withdraw crowdsourcing cards - everyone can use it, but non -profit organizations will receive obvious benefits from such a functionality).

• What areas of work, the greenhouse considers socially significant, you can look at the checklist .
• An example of a plugin with a highly specialized public orientation is an online league , a plugin that simplifies the collection of online donations.
• An example of a plugin with wide functionality, but useful for non -profit organizations: Yandex.News Feed by Teplitsa - the plugin is equally useful for everyone, but also carries important functionality for the non -profit organizations that use it.
• Examples of tasks that non -profit organizations often face:

* a) The organization’s reporting. Non -profit organizations are institutions of public trust. Therefore, they need to provide reports. Help make a report generator for them;
* b) monitoring of what is happening. Many non -profit organizations are monitoring the situation and conducting monitoring bases, you can probably figure out how to optimize this process.

Why WordPress? WordPress is for bloggers | beginners | not for me

According to experience, the ability to install a plugin for WordPress and not meet the surprise in the form of installation errors, problems with the production environment, etc., much higher compared to Stand-alone applications on Drupal, Django, Laravel, Ror, etc. WordPress removes the burden of installation and allows you to go directly to use. And for a long time no longer a platform for bloggers, but a full -fledged ecosystem.

And what about copyright? Do you buy everything from me?

In accordance with the concluded agreement, you (the contractor) transfer the exclusive rights to use the result of intellectual activity - the plugin code. The author of the plugin is you. The necessary condition is to release the code paid to us under the GNU GPL V2 license (the license required by the WordPress plugin repository) and add to the text that the greenhouse supported the creation or refinement of the plugin.

Further interaction between the author of the plugin and the greenhouse can occur according to two scenarios: 1) joint administration of the WordPress Roads; 2) fork the original repository with a greenhouse. In both cases, indicating the authorship of the source code is always preserved.

I will create a plugin and support it, but for free?

Support (or rejection of one) after the publication of the plugin remains at the discretion of the author of the plugin. The greenhouse team takes the obligation to maintain the work capacity of the code after starting, if the author does not have time for such support.

Why are you so kind? What is your interest?

The greenhouse of social technologies is a social project. Among other things, the project is aimed at providing custom -made customer development services with sites on WordPress. We have an interest in the fact that the close ecosystem becomes richer, and the number and quality of tools for the implementation of social changes grew. Here is such an interest.

Can I submit more than one application?

Yes. The number of applications from one author or team, developers or initiators can be any.

How do you define the winner?

Determine the winner will be a jury consisting of a team of greenhouse of social technologies. The quality of the application, the quality of the prototype sketches (if any) will be evaluated, the potential effect for non -profit organizations and public initiatives, the implementation in the framework of financing and the implementation period - 3 (three) months.

Applications for the competition are accepted until December 15, 2018. After the receipt of applications during the week, the jury will choose a short list of the most interesting and promising ideas. Further, the authors of applications, if necessary, complement and clarify the applications. In the second round of selection, the jury will select the winner from the short list on December 25, 2018.

What will help me win?

The greenhouse will choose the project that will prove that the idea is high -quality, thoughtful, with the potential for solving public problems, and the experience and qualifications of the Contractor leave no doubt.

Fill out all the fields in detail, as well as: 1) conduct a study. If you have a good idea, make sure that it has not yet been implemented in Russia or it has not yet been used for social purposes; 2) Find partners (non -profit organizations, social entrepreneurs, activists) who will provide consultations in the development process and, after launch, will use a technological solution.

I have a cool plugin, and I would like to participate in the competition for its improvement. So you can?

You can try. In general, the jury will give preference to the creation of new plugins. At the same time, the jury will also consider applications with proposals for finalizing existing plugins. In the case of refinement, the author must be ready to add a link to the greenhouse of social technologies to the description of the already working plugin. Questions regarding the support of such a functionality will be stipulated separately.

I want to do a study or longrid. Can I participate in the competition?

No. The jury will not consider applications for the creation of content, offline projects, as well as the publication of already conducted research. This is a competition for creating scalable tools. If you plan to create a plugin that will allow you to do something useful with content, it will do. And the content itself - no. If you want to create a plugin that would investigate user behavior or help to conduct research, such an idea is accepted.
