In Arkhangelsk, a member of the “Other Russia” was fined 200 thousand rubles for an action against the construction of landfills

The Oktyabrsky District Court of Arkhangelsk fined Valery Sheptukhin, a member of the unregistered Other Russia party, 200,000 rubles for an action against the construction of landfills.

According to OVD-Info, he was found guilty of repeated violation of holding a public event (part 8 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).

A day earlier, Sheptukhin chained himself with a bicycle cable to a traffic light outside the city administration building. The police had to call the Ministry of Emergency Situations to release him. All this time, Sheptukhin was holding a poster against the construction of landfills.

The first administrative case, according to the activist, is related to the picket on October 20 against landfills in Severodvinsk.

Residents of the Arkhangelsk region have been opposing the construction of a landfill, the Shies ecotechnopark, located in the Lensky district, since the summer of 2018. Local residents complained that the builders had cut down trees and bushes to clear the area and build railroad tracks to the landfill.

The cost of the project for the import and storage of garbage from Moscow will be about 10.5 billion rubles. The plans of the capital annually for 20 years to take out approximately 500 thousand tons of municipal solid waste. In October, the governor of the region, Igor Orlov, allowed the import of garbage not only from Moscow, but also from other regions.
