A rally was held in Moscow against the demolition of the Nightingale cinema center on Krasnaya Presnya. According to the radio station "Echo of Moscow", it was attended by about 200 people.

Among the speakers were Anastasia Udaltsova, the wife of the Left Front coordinator Sergei Udaltsov, Moscow City Duma deputy from the Communist Party Nikolai Zubrilin and the former head of the Moscow Yabloko Sergei Mitrokhin.

The latter said that the demolition of the cinema center is “part of the overall activity in the interests of developers who are indulged by the authorities.”

The Nightingale Cinema Center was built in 1989 at the expense of the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR, designed by architect Vladimir Ginzburg. It has 24 halls and is one of the largest cinema centers in Europe.

According to Novaya Gazeta, a 22-storey hotel with a cultural and leisure complex may appear on the site of the cinema center .

The chief architect of Moscow, Sergei Kuznetsov , noted that earlier, during public hearings, the construction project did not arouse resistance from residents. Nevertheless, Muscovites began collecting signatures under the petition “We will not let the Nightingale Cinema Center on Krasnaya Presnya be closed!”. It was signed by more than 89 thousand people.
