On December 2, about 10 thousand people simultaneously protested in Arkhangelsk, Severodvinsk, Urdom and other cities (in one Arkhangelsk a rally gathered 5 thousand). Petersburg has made its small contribution to pickets at city monuments.

Recall that protests against the export of metropolitan garbage to the north of the country have been going on for several months. Moscow has long overwhelmed its landfills for solid household waste, however, instead of introducing separate collection and processing of waste, the authorities decided to simply take garbage to remote regions. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and the governor of the Arkhangelsk region Igor Orlov agreed to create a garbage training ground at the Shies station of the Lensky district. And so that the municipal authorities do not object (the municipalities are mostly sided with the inhabitants), the regional parliament deprived them of the right to dispose of their own land.

Activists overlapped the highway, along which they brought building materials for the landfill, and in mid -November they burned two tractors worth 900,000 rubles in Shies - the equipment carried out work, although there were no agreements.

Of course, Petersburg could not stay away. Activist Maria Kinza published a call on the Internet, and on December 2, about 30 people gathered near the Legislative Assembly. Moreover, some picketers were from Severodvinsk and other northern regions. Many went to the picket for the first time in their life. They were afraid that there were not enough hands to hold the posters, but in the end - there were not enough posters for everyone. The police were polite, but firm: for the attempt at least a step to move (unauthorized procession) or approach the picketer (mass picket), there was a warning. Nevertheless, the townspeople managed to “stand up” in the pickets of all the main tourist places of the city - the Isaacievsky Cathedral, the Copper Horseman, Admiralty, Rostral columns, etc.

It is unlikely that these pickets will stop the determination of Sergei Sobyanin, but they will be able to at least cheer up the northerners.
