"An Inexplicable Decision." The Head of the Human Rights Council on the Administrative Arrest of Human Rights Activist Lev Ponomarev

The head of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Fedotov, expressed his indignation at the decision of the Tverskoy Court to place 77-year-old human rights activist Lev Ponomarev under administrative arrest for 25 days.

"In this case, I am convinced that the court could have limited itself to a fine. I hope that the city court will correct the decision of the Tverskoy court in the very near future," Fedotov emphasized.

• On December 5, the Tverskoy Court of Moscow placed Lev Ponomarev under administrative arrest for calling for people to attend a rally "For our and your children" in defense of the defendants in the " Penza case " and the " New Greatness " case. The uncoordinated rally took place on October 28 in Moscow and St. Petersburg, and many of its participants were detained.
