The international human rights organization Amnesty International has demanded the release of 77-year-old human rights activist Lev Ponomarev, who was arrested for 25 days on December 5.
"Lev Ponomarev is one of the pillars of the human rights movement in Russia. By arresting a man who has dedicated his entire life to protecting human rights, the Russian authorities have demonstrated their contempt for these rights," said Natalia Zvyagina, head of the organization's Russian office.
