In an American city, there was a ban on snowball fights for almost 100 years. A nine-year-old schoolboy achieved its abolition

In the American city of Severance, Colorado, there was a ban on playing snowballs for almost a hundred years. Now it's been canceled - all thanks to a nine-year-old boy named Dane Best.

In October 2018, Best, along with his other classmates, went on an excursion to the city hall. The head of the city began to tell schoolchildren about strange laws. He also mentioned a decree from 1920, according to which in Severance it is impossible to throw stones and other projectiles at people, animals, trees, buildings and vehicles.

Technically, snowballs fit the definition of a projectile, but the authorities never pressed for enforcement of the ban. Moreover, the mayor of Severance did not even know how he should punish violators (which were, for example, his sons).

Dane Best decided to rectify the situation. The boy collected two dozen signatures from his classmates in his support and prepared a five-minute presentation - in which he explained in detail why the city authorities should lift the ban. He called the law outdated and stressed that children living in Severance, like children from the rest of the world, should be able to throw snowballs. The city council supported Best's proposal, and the mayor gave the student a special device - a snowball.

After the ban was lifted, Best promised to throw a snowball at his four-year-old brother first.
