President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko called the date of the Unification Council, which should proclaim the creation of an autocephalous local Orthodox church in Ukraine. According to Poroshenko, he will take place on December 15 in "St. Sophia, which for centuries has been the center of Ukrainian religious life" (refers to the Cathedral of St. Sophia in Kyiv). The president reported this at the local government forum in Kiev and wrote on his Twitter page.

The cathedral must also approve the charter of the new Ukrainian church and choose its Primate. Poroshenko noted that the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew signed letters with invitations to the Cathedral of the Hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate, the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.
