
On December 4, Qualcomm officially announced its new flagship mobile processor, which will replace the Snapdragon 845 chip and will take place in smartphones from many manufacturers.
The model was designated Snapdragon 855, although earlier leaks claimed that the chip would receive the number 8150. The company has not yet disclosed the full characteristics of the processor, but it is assumed that it has eight cores: one Kryo Gold Prime core with a frequency of up to 2.84 GHz, three cores Kryo Gold with a frequency of up to 2.42 GHz and four Kryo Silver cores with a frequency of up to 1.78 GHz.
According to 3DNews , the new processor is manufactured using a 7-nanometer process technology and is the first Snapdragon chip with support for fifth-generation mobile networks ( the Snapdragon X50 5G modem is used for this). The Snapdragon X24 LTE module is responsible for working in 4G/LTE networks. The processor also received a fourth-generation engine, designed to speed up operations related to artificial intelligence. Compared to the current flagship Snapdragon 845 processor, the performance on such tasks for the 855 model has tripled.
To work with graphics, the Snapdragon 855 uses a high-performance Adreno 640 controller. In addition, the chip has support for ultrasonic fingerprint scanners built into the display.
Qualcomm also said that early next year the first commercial 5G networks will be launched in the US, Europe, China, Japan, South Korea and Australia.
