The Central Bank offers “mortgage holidays”

The Bank of Russia proposes to consolidate the right of citizens to temporarily suspend mortgage payments, for example, in the event of a job loss, said First Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Sergei Shvetsov.

writes As Prime , according to Shvetsov, the innovation can be extended to other force majeure circumstances: accidents, diseases that lead to temporary disability.

According to experts interviewed by Prime, the proposal to give the Russians in the event of force majeure "mortgage holidays" of the Central Bank was prompted by the desire to level the negative associated with the growth of overdue debt. However, the decrease in statistics may turn out to be “paper”, believes Dmitry Taganov, head of the INCOM-Real Estate Analytical Center.

“Now banks take away an apartment in extreme cases, trying to the last to settle the matter with the borrower amicably. They offer refinancing, restructuring, installment debt. Apartments are a non-core asset for banks, it takes time and effort to sell them, and in the end this is negative for statistics,” he explained.

In turn, the managing partner of Metrium, Maria Litinetskaya, is sure that banks will form a powerful “opposition” to such initiatives, since they are not interested in losing mortgage payments even for a limited period.
