Sakhalin: Putin appointed the acting head of the region

Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed the temporarily acting governor of the Sakhalin Region Valery Limarenko. Earlier, he held the post of head of the engineering division of the State Corporation of the Rosatom Corporation.

At the end of November, the deputies of the Sakhalin Regional Duma sent an appeal to Putin , in which they called the situation of the critical in the region due to the lack of the head of the region. Parliamentarians were asked to urgently appoint the temporarily acting head of the region.

The former head of Sakhalin Oleg Kozhemyako was appointed President Vladimir Putin after the scandal in the second round of the governor's elections in Primorye on September 16. Then the voting results were canceled due to massive violations. The Communist Party candidate Andrei Ishchenko was leading in it, however, when the counting of the votes was already completed, the acting Governor of United Russia Andrei Tarasenko came forward with a slight margin. Ishchenko announced falsifications and called for protests to which thousands of residents of Vladivostok came to. A new vote will take place on December 16.
