The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation will create a unified oncology register of patients

The head of the Russian Ministry of Health, Veronika Skvortsova, said that within the framework of the national project “Health” a register of people with cancer will be created. RIA Novosti reports this.

She explained that this is a full-fledged system, which will be monitored by regional authorities and national medical research centers. According to Skvortsova, the register will help track a patient’s treatment from diagnosis to recovery.

“In fact, this program will allow us not only to create a register, but to create a system where we see every patient in this system. We see a perspective - a roadmap for its management in accordance with the diagnosis and in accordance with the clinical protocols that must be carried out,” Skvortsova said.

She added that there you can also see how timely and correctly medical care was provided, how a person is treated after discharge from an oncology hospital, how many courses of chemotherapy he was given and how rehabilitation is carried out.

According to the minister, cancer mortality in Russia has begun to decline, but the one-year mortality rate (22.3%) remains high. At the same time, the five-year survival rate has increased: 54% of patients with cancer live more than five years after diagnosis, TASS reports.

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Health said that funding for the treatment of patients with oncology will be doubled in 2019. Additional money will be used for chemotherapy. The Ministry of Health also plans to train pediatricians to search for cancer in children.

President Vladimir Putin called the fight against cancer one of the main tasks to achieve an increase in life expectancy. The Ministry of Health needs to halve the one-year mortality rate of cancer patients in order to reach world standards.
