Lyudmila Alekseeva died

In Moscow, a human rights activist, head of the Moscow Helsinki group, Lyudmila Alekseeva died. She was 91 years old.

Alekseeva died in Moscow hospital No. 15. According to the head of the Council for Human Rights under President Mikhail Fedotov, she worked until the last and the day before she gave instructions to her assistant.

“She remained the human rights activist until the last moments, she really put her life for her other. To say that we will miss her is to say nothing. This is a terrible loss for the entire human rights movement of Russia, ”said the head of the HRC Mikhail Fedotov.

• Lyudmila Alekseeva was born in 1927 in Yevpatoria. She was a member of the Soviet dissident movement, participated in the publication of the Chronicle of current events. In 1976, Alekseeva became one of the founders of the Moscow Helsinki group - the oldest human rights organization in Russia, and a year later emigrated to the United States.
• Since 2002, Alekseeva has been in the Commission on Human Rights under the President, which was then transformed into the Human Rights Council.
