The human rights activist Lyudmila Alekseeva died

In Moscow, in the 92nd year of life, a human rights activist, the head of the Moscow Helsinki group, Lyudmila Alekseeva, died.

This was announced by the head of the Presidential Council for Human Rights Mikhail Fedotov with reference to the head doctor of the 15th Moscow city hospital.

According to the head of Fedotov, on Friday from the hospital chamber Alekseeva worked and gave instructions to her assistant.

“To say that we will lack her is to say nothing. This is a terrible loss for the entire human rights movement of Russia,” the SPC website quotes Fedotov.

On the day of her 90th anniversary, she personally asked Vladimir Putin to pardon ex-senator Igor Izmestiev, convicted of life for terrorism and organizing murders.

Alekseeva was born in Yevpatoria in 1927, graduated from the History Faculty of Moscow State University and graduate school of the Moscow Economic and Statistical Institute. She participated in the publication of the underground Soviet human rights ballot "Chronicle of current events."

After the death of Joseph Stalin and the arrest of Lavrenty Beria in 1953, Alekseeva left science and took up human rights.

In 1968, Alekseev was expelled from the CPSU and fired from work for participating in human rights performances against the processes of writers Andrei Sinyavsky, Julius Daniel, journalist Alexander Ginzburg and poet Yuri Galanskov.

In 1974, the human rights activist announced a warning by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for the "systematic production and distribution of anti -Soviet works."

In 1976, he became one of the founders of the human rights Moscow Helsinki group. A year later, she was forced to emigrate from the country.

Abroad, Alekseeva studied the dissident movement, collaborated with Radio Liberty and the Voice of America radio station, was published in various publications and advised human rights organizations.

In the 93rd year, she returned to Russia, where she was elected chairman of the Moscow Helsinki group and was engaged in human rights.

In May of the 96th, she was elected chairman of the ICG. In the period from 98th to 2004, she was also the president of the International Helsinki Federation on Human Rights.
