Ronaldo will receive a suspended sentence for tax evasion in Spain

The forward of the Italian football club Juventus, Cristiano Ronaldo, pleaded guilty to four counts of tax fraud in Spain, Football Italia reports.

The 33-year-old athlete did so in the courtroom and agreed to a two-year suspended sentence. According to Spanish law, he must appear again in court to formalize the plea deal.

While in Spain and playing for Real Madrid, the athlete committed four separate tax crimes between 2011 and 2014. Ronaldo was found guilty of fraud amounting to 14.7 million euros. The footballer has already returned 13.4 million euros to the Spanish treasury.

The court decided to imprison the football player for two years. However, according to Spanish law, since this is the footballer's first offense and the sentence is less than two years and one day, the real prison sentence will be replaced with a suspended one. However, if Ronaldo violates Spanish tax laws again, he will receive a prison sentence.

Let us recall that in July it was announced that Ronaldo would move to the Italian Juventus; the player’s transfer amount was 100 million euros. The Portuguese played 20 matches for the Turin club this season, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists.
