Before the match between the Norwegian and Belarusian national teams, the organizers of the MECA Hockey Games hockey tournament in Lerenskog played a composition by the Pesnyary ensemble instead of the Belarusian anthem.
The sound engineers of the tournament considered the national anthem of Belarus to be the folk song “Kosiv Yas Konyushinu”, which became popular performed by the ensemble “Pesnyary”.
It is noteworthy that the Norwegian fans stood up during the performance of the perky song with a dashing whistle, also considering it the anthem of the opponent.
The organizers apologized to the team only after the end of the match, which ended in a crushing defeat for the Belarusians with a score of 1:6.
Let us remind you that the national anthem of the Republic of Belarus is the USSR-era composition “We, Belarusians, are peaceful people” with music by Nestor Sokolovsky and lyrics by Mikhas Klimkovich. From 1995 to 2002, the anthem was sung in official ceremonies without words, and in 2002 its text was revised to take into account new realities.
