The Petrozavodsk City Court extended until March 25 the arrest of Yury Dmitriev, head of the Karelian "Memorial". Elena Shapiro reported this on Facebook.
In October, the Petrozavodsk City Court ruled to merge into one proceeding the criminal cases of Dmitriev on sexual assault committed against a person under the age of 14 (paragraph “b” of Part 4 of Article 132 of the Criminal Code) and on the production of child pornography (Article 242.2 UK).
- Yuri Dmitriev was arrested on June 28, on the same day he was charged. According to investigators, from 2012 to 2016, the historian committed sexual assault against his adopted daughter.
- According to the lawyer, the accusation is based on the conversations of a grandmother, a psychologist and an investigator with the adopted daughter of a human rights activist. The lawyer believes that the psychologist was in touch with the investigator and became a mechanism for putting pressure on the child.
- The case of the manufacture of child pornography was opened because of the pictures of the daughter of a naked daughter, who was under Dmitriev's care. Security officials found nine photographs on the historian's computer. According to Dmitriev himself, he took pictures on the advice of a doctor in order to monitor the physical development of the child.
- In April, the city court acquitted the historian, but two months later the Supreme Court of Karelia reversed this decision and sent the case back for a new trial.
- Yuri Dmitriev is a well-known Karelian local historian, historian and human rights activist, known for finding a mass grave of victims of Stalinist repressions in the town of Sandormokh in 1997.
