According to the deputy director for scientific and educational work of the museum Iraid Bott, the album in February 2018 discovered a employee of the National Museum of Prado in the antique market in Madrid. According to her, in Russian he read the stamp of the Museum "Tsarskoye Selo Imperial Library" and wrote to the St. Petersburg Museum. Then the “Tsarskoye Selo” redeemed work for 16 thousand euros.
According to Bott, experts found 69 engravings in the album instead of 68, numbered before the war. Where another came from, it is unknown, but the museum is confident in its authenticity.

The Album of engravings of Bartolozzi fell into the Imperial Assembly of the Alexander Palace in Catherine's time. It comes from the royal French collection, but it is still unknown how it was transferred to Russia. In 1941, German soldiers from the Special detachment took the album.
