The Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Vitaly Mutko left the post of president of the Russian Football Union. The press service of the organization officially informed about this on Wednesday.

The duties of the head of the organization until February 22, when the report and election conference will be held, will be executed by the President of the Russian Premier League Sergey Prygkin.

During the press conference, Pryadkin said that he was not going to exhibit his candidacy in the upcoming elections of the head of the RFU.

According to media reports, Alexander Alaev and chairman of the Board of Directors of Zenit Alexander Dyukov are considered the main applicants for the post of head of the RFU.

"Staring the presidency of the RFU, I faced the task of normalizing Russian football, then a new championship of the world. In general, these tasks have been solved today, I am satisfied with the results of my work. And now the time has come to choose a new president, the correct period has come - the end of the year, the national team plays qualifications. I, in turn, intends to devote my activities to the public service, national policy," TASS Mutko quoted.

Vitaly Mutko has led the RFU since 2015, as well as from 2005 to 2009. In 2016, after his re-election for a new four-year term, the official announced a temporary suspension of activities in the RFU against the backdrop of a doping scandal and his lifelong detachment from participation in the Olympic Games in any quality.

The acting President of the RFU since then has been Alexander Alaev.

Mutko then also left the post of Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the World Cup Russia 2018, explaining these decisions with the desire to pole his honest name in a sports arbitration court.
