President Vladimir Putin, answering a question about torture in Russian colonies, said that a large-scale reform of the Federal Penitentiary Service is not needed. According to him, "breaking" it "would be wrong."
He noted that the prosecutor's office and society should monitor the system of execution of punishments. Various violations, according to the president, are investigated, and those responsible are punished.
Earlier, after the revelation of torture in the Yaroslavl colony, the reform of the Federal Penitentiary Service was proposed by the Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko.
