The court in Chechnya refused the UDO to the journalist of the Caucasian Knot, who was convicted of drug storage

On December 18, the Naursky District Court refused the parole of the Caucasian Knot correspondent Zhalaudi Geriev, convicted of drug storage (part 2 of article 228 of the Criminal Code). The publication website says that the court did not explain the reason for the refusal.

Geriev was sentenced to three years in a colony in September 2016. According to the prosecution, in April 2016 he went to the outskirts of the village of Kurchali to use marijuana, where he was detained. Human rights activists believe that the true reason for the persecution of Geriev is his journalistic activity.

At the last meeting on UDO, they did not let the correspondent of the “Caucasian Knot”, who came to cover the process.

The court agreed with the arguments of the representative of the FSIN: she asked the court to refuse to satisfy the petition and stated that the colony administration considers it inappropriate to free Geriev. The prosecutor also supported this position.

The lawyer of the convicted person Alaudi Musaev believes that the reason for the representatives of the Federal Penitentiary Service and the prosecutor’s office was not refused, and the judge’s decision has other reasons that, according to the lawyer, he cannot disclose yet. He also noted that Jalaudi has no existing penalties in the colony, there are three encouragements. His client also graduated from a professional school at the colony.

“At the same time, they called the basis for refusing to the recommendation of parole that Gloudi Geriev did not admit his deed and did not repent. But neither the representative of the Federal Penitentiary Service, nor the prosecutor could call the court the rule of law, where this foundation would be spelled out. There is simply no such norm, ” Caucasian Knot quotes Alaudi Musaev’s comment.

“To admit that he did not do, my client cannot. He insists that he was not committed by the crime. Geriev now insists that he was thrown into the drugs, and he filed a statement to bring the perpetrators to criminal liability. Now, according to his application, the pre -investigation check has not yet been completed, ” the lawyer added.

Until the expiration of the journalist’s maintenance in the colony, four months remained.

In September, the Naursky District Court decided on the parole of Geriev. Soon, the prosecutor of the republic appealed this decision, and on November 8, the Chechen Supreme Court satisfied the appeal, canceling Udo Geriev.
