Science magazine called 10 main breakthroughs of the year in science. And three failures

Science magazine has published a list of the main achievements of the year in the field of science. The list led an international study on the activity of genes in embryos cells.

With the help of new technologies for irradiation of intact cells and their marking, scientists managed to investigate their interaction in time and space. So scientists were able to understand which genes show activity at the time of production of RNA - that is, determine the actions of the cell in the process of development of the embryo.

Scientists have already studied the processes of organs in embryos of flat worms, fish and frogs. It is assumed that in the future this technology will allow you to control the development of individual cells and, therefore, the whole organism.

In total, there were ten scientific works and discoveries in the short list of “breakthroughs of the year”. These included, for example, the study of the bones of an ancient girl , which proved the crossing of Denisov and Neanderthals, the opening of a crater from a meteorite in Greenland, the disclosure of a series of murders of forty years ago on the basis of DNA analysis.

Science also identified three main scientific failures of the year. These included global warming, the problem of which, despite the sounding of scientists that sound for many years, is only aggravated by the actions of politicians; a fire in the National Museum in Brazil, in which 15 million exhibits were destroyed, many of which had no analogues; As well as the experiments of Chinese scientists in the genetic modification of a person to whom many issues of ethical nature arose.
