At the last, “large”, press conference, the president called two signs for him (and for the country) the events of the year-actually the presidential election and the World Cup. Well, yes.

About our elections. At a meeting with the new composition of the HRC, the president reacted quite harshly to the “carousel” in Balashikha, Moscow Region, the photo and video reports of which were published by the New Gazeta. And he even instructed Alexander Bastrykin to understand violations, and in fact, crimes, in the election of the governor of the Moscow region.

We asked you, our readers-participants, do you believe that after a direct indication of the head of state, falsification will be investigated, and falsifiers will be punished? More than 90% of those who voted on the News website said - no, they will not punish anyone and nothing will change. 8.5% allowed that they would find the perpetrators, but this will not affect anything. Less than one percent were still optimists.

No surprising for those who remember how the much more scandalous story with Mytishchi Gate ended, where there was more than enough evidence, and no one, in fact, argued that the election results were rewritten at once in all 68 election commissions. Or for those who followed the extracts of power in Primorye. There, the election of the governor - the rare case - was generally canceled. And what, someone is punished?

All year we lived as on the "American hills", which the Americans call the "Russians." More precisely. Up - down, up - down. Hope is disappointment. That is another attraction for fragile souls.

On January 9, the head of the Chechen Memorial, Oyub Titiev, was detained in Kurchalny after a police provocation. Two days later, at a meeting with the chief editors, a letter of human rights activists Lyudmila Alekseeva, Leo Ponomarev and Svetlana Gannushkina was handed over to the president with a request to understand the absurdity of the prosecution. The president promises to figure it out. And the case of Yuri Dmitrieva (the head of the Karelian Memorial) promises - "We'll see again."

April 5 - after the election, but even before the inauguration, the court justifies Dmitriev on the main charges.

At the end of June, he was arrested again, charged under an even more difficult article. Up - down. And with Titiev’s “business”, the court is still “understanding” the court in Shali ... There is only down. "Caucasian slides" will be abruptly.

The case of the "network", then the case of "new greatness". The New Gazeta launches on Chang.org the petition “Let them go to mothers”, then another about the termination of the case. Hundreds of thousands of signatures. The march of mothers, unauthorized, but, in fact, permitted. Protected by the correct police. The court is in a hurry to release Anna Pavlikova and Masha Dubovik from the pre -trial detention center under house arrest. But they do not stop the matter, no one is going to punish provocateurs. And Lev Ponomarev, who became the engine of the public movement in defense of the defendants in the affairs of the “network” and “new greatness”, received his 25 days of administrative arrest under the curtain of the year, cynically replaced by 16.

2018 could become a record for cases initiated in the 282nd, “extremist” article. But the “sticks” in the police reporting for likes and reposts, investigative actions and landing stopped as if by the wave of a magic wand-this president only promised to decriminalize the 282nd. The Duma got into Frunt. The article is decriminalized. But - partially.

The World Cup is the main event of the year after the election, according to the president. Crowds on the streets, international walks, euphoria, unity, delight! The condescending police and the good-natured Rosguard, who spoke in English. “Ai SPIC FROMA HART”, as the chief football manager taught.

And almost immediately - an announcement of pension reform, an increase in VAT! Until we woke up.

All -Russian protests, tough detentions and the Russian Guard, as if revenge for his citizens in a month of forced good behavior ...

Up - down, to the right - to the left. Well, who is “swinging the boat” after that?

And at the end of the year, an event occurred, in importance for society and the country no less than everything that is higher.

On December 21, the jury collegium in the Bryansk Regional Court finished the verdict’s announcement of one of the most absurd processes in recent years. The so-called "poppy" new newspaper "was forced to write many, many times. It took two days to announce. So, after all, the investigation, and then the court stretched for as many as eight years!

The jury fully justified all 13 defendants in the case. On the first day - seven, on the second - six more. All! Including Olga Zelenin, an expert, the head of the chemical and analytical laboratory of the Penza Research Institute of Agriculture, whose fate was especially dramatic. The jury did what the state has not enough for the state for all these years neither the spirit nor common sense.

Do you know why they won? Because all these many years of investigation and courts kept together, no one changed his testimony, did not make a deal with the investigation to facilitate his fate at the expense of others.

They became accomplices - not in the sense in which they tried to put them.

Just four months ago, September 3, the editors invited its readers to become accomplices in Novaya Gazeta. And it seems that it has always been like that. And in fact, it was so.
