German Foreign Minister opposed the placement of new missiles in Europe

The German Foreign Minister opposed the placement of medium -range missiles with nuclear warheads in Europe. According to Haiko Maas, Europe should not turn into the arena of debate on weapons increasing if the agreement on the liquidation of medium and lower -range missiles will stop its effect.

In October, US President Donald Trump announced the intention of Washington to leave the agreement on the elimination of medium and shorter missiles, accusing Russia of violation of the agreement. The agreement, signed in 1987, prohibits the deployment of ground -based cruise missiles with a range of 500 to 5500 kilometers.

Moscow rejects the accusations of violation of the document. The Russian authorities called the “blackmail” the US decision and threatened the “military-technical response measures”. In particular, the Russian command stated that after the cancellation of the RSMD agreement, the potential goals of Russia will be the countries where American missiles are located.

In early November, the French president announced the need to create a single European army, independent of the United States. According to Emmanuel Macron, the need for such an army grew after a statement by US President Donald Trump about plans to withdraw from the RSMD agreement.
