The number of hostels increased by a third over the year in Russia

The World Cup and the growth of the popularity of domestic tourism became a powerful driver for the hostels market in 2018, Kommersant writes with reference to the data of the booking book ontwotrip.

According to Onetwotrip, in total in Russia, 83% more hostels opened in Russia than a year earlier - 530 new objects in the 50 largest Russian cities were registered in the reservation systems. The company clarified that in total, 1.57 thousand hostels are available in the country now for reservation. Thus, in 2018, a third of the current proposal was formed.

As noted in Onetwotrip, in budget hotels, investors are attracted to low costs for launching and short payback periods, but work in this segment is complicated by growing competition.

The fact of the rapid growth of the hostels market is confirmed by real estate market consultants. Thus, according to Marina Smirnova, head of the hotel and tourism department of Cushman & Wakefield, in 2013 there were about 40 hostels in Moscow, and at the beginning of 2018 it was already 438. At the same time, the Moscow Tourism Committee said that in December there were 590 hostels in the city. It turns out that market growth was 34.7%.

Onetwotrip statistics claims that 121 hostels opened in Moscow over the year. In second place is St. Petersburg (67 new objects), and closes the troika Kazan, where 32 hostels opened. Next are Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Nizhny Novgorod, Krasnodar and Novosibirsk. In total, 70% of the new hosts of hostels this year fell on cities that took the World Cup in the summer, and another 15% to other million-plus cities. 40% of the new hostels opened in May and June, before the start of the World Cup.

“Although some of the hostels opened in anticipation are already closed, this is a non -daemic and not affecting the results of the year,” said the representative of Onetwotrip Alexei Belousov.

The company predicts that next year the hosts market growth rates will remain quite high, although they will decrease compared to 2018. Reducing a proposal is possible only in case of tightening regulation in this area.

Recall that in October the government opposed the proposal of State Duma deputies about the complete ban on hosting hostels in residential buildings. We are talking about amendments to the law "On the Fundamentals of Tourism Activities in the Russian Federation", prepared in the spring of this year . Their authors proposed to introduce a ban on the use of residential premises for hotels, hostels and other "temporary accommodation equipment".

As the authors of the amendments noted, the entry of the law "On the basics of tourist activities in the Russian Federation" will, by force, will introduce an organization in the houses in the houses of hostels, which contradicts housing legislation. However, the government did not agree with the arguments of the deputies - the review of the bill says that the provisions of the future law are consistent with applicable law. In addition, the government noted that the Tax Code of the Russian Federation attributes residential buildings, cottages and private houses to objects of temporary accommodation.
