The birthplace of the ancestors and the core of the Earth: the results of the year of crystallographer Artem Oganov

Crystallographer Artem Oganov told Polit.ru as he was for him in 2018: a year of traveling to the homeland of ancestors and new scientific discoveries.

This year, while the world went crazy in cold, trade and other wars, I had a fourth child - Sasha’s son. In the summer with children, they first visited the homeland of their ancestors - in Nagorno -Karabakh. I taught children to the bath. I found a long -lost classmate, as well as relatives from Georgia. My first Russian graduate student brilliantly defended his thesis. This year brought many important scientific results that the guys and I published in 26 articles. For example: we created a method for predicting the compositions of stable nanoparticles and saw the “islands of stability”; discovered a new super -hard material; specified the composition of the inner core of the Earth. He also brought many new ideas that will keep us in good shape next year.
