In less than a month, representatives of the Twitter service will meet with Roskomnadzor employees to discuss the transfer of servers with personal data of Russians in the Russian Federation.
“Twitter representatives proposed organizing a meeting in January. The subject of the conversation is the implementation of the law on the localization of personal data in the territory of the Russian Federation, ”the press service of the department told Interfax .
The exact date is not yet called, but earlier the head of the RKN Alexander Zharov reported that on December 17 the department sent letters on Twitter and Facebook about the need to comply with the legislation of the Russian Federation in terms of localizing the databases of users of the Russian Federation in Russia. Then he clarified that in a month - that is, January 17 - there will be a deadline for a legally significant answer.
Three months earlier, Zharov also noted that it gives both social networks the term until December to report on how they fulfill the new law.
“They wrote to us a letter signed by one of the vice presidents of the company, which said that in the second half of 2018, Twitter localizes the databases of Russian citizens in the Russian Federation. Here is the second half of the year, I set myself the deadline on December 15, and write the letter: "Tell me, where are they stored, this data?" This is, in fact, the start of Twitter verification. I will do the same in relation to Facebook. We will never check the companies instrumentation. We come and ask owners of server capacities, whether there is an agreement with Twitter. Further, not our work begins. Further, those who are engaged in operational-search activities, if they believe that personal data is flowing, are not localized and so on. Therefore, this, in fact, will be the beginning of the verification, ”the agency of the word Zharov recalls.
Recall that the law on the localization of personal data appeared in 2014. The initiator of its creation was Russian President Vladimir Putin, who said that information about the Russians should be stored in Russia. The innovation affected 2.6 million organizations, Kommersant said.
“The first company, whose website was blocked for refusing to fulfill this norm, was the Linkedin social network - it was not ready to localize the servers with information about registered Russians, the number of which totaled about 5 million people,” the newspaper recalls.
We add that Roskomnadzor had previously fined Google for non -fulfillment of Russian laws. Then it was about a document that obliges the search engines to connect to a single register of prohibited information and filter the search results from sites in this register.
“Google was fined today for 500 thousand rubles. I can announce that in the near future we will begin the following administrative case against Google, ”said Alexander Zharov RIA Novosti .
Fines are also threatened with Twitter and Facebook. True, the amount is different - five thousand rubles each.
“There is no issue of blocking Facebook on the agenda, on the agenda the question is that Facebook begins to fully comply with Russian legislation, and we will achieve this,” Zharov noted earlier.
