Hurriyet: Türkiye wants US bases in Syria

Turkish authorities plan to ask the United States to transfer bases in Syria to them after the completion of the withdrawal of American troops from the country, the Hurriyet newspaper writes, citing sources.

Also, Turkey will be satisfied with the option in which the American bases will be destroyed. The main thing, the newspaper writes, on which Turkey will insist is that the Kurdish formations do not get the bases.

The fate of the 22 US bases in Syria, located in Kurdish-controlled territory, is planned, according to Hurriyet, to be discussed with US national security adviser John Bolton during his visit to Turkey.

• US President Donald Trump announced the withdrawal of US troops from Syria in December.
• The US military in Syria supported the Kurdish militias in the fight against terrorists from the Islamic State. The US also provided logistical assistance to the Kurds. Turkey, in turn, is trying to take control of the territories currently occupied by the Kurds.
