Roskomnadzor accused the BBC of broadcasting “installations of international terrorist organizations” due to quotes from the leader of the Islamic State

Roskomnadzor sent materials from the BBC Russian Service for examination due to a quote from the leader of the Islamic State terrorist group Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, according to the agency’s website.

“At the moment, materials have been identified that convey the ideological guidelines of international terrorist organizations (quotes from terrorist Al-Baghdadi). An examination is being carried out to determine whether these materials comply with the norms of Russian anti-extremist legislation,” the statement said. We are talking, among other things, about the BBC website.

In addition, on January 9, the supervisory authority sent a request to British Television LLC, which includes the BBC World News channel , with a request to provide documents confirming compliance with the law regarding limiting control of Russian media by foreigners and foreign organizations.

From January 13 to 31, Roskomnadzor will conduct a campaign to ensure compliance with licensing and mandatory requirements in the field of television and radio broadcasting.

Roskomnadzor decided to check the BBC for compliance of its materials with Russian legislation due to the fact that in the UK, the local regulator Ofcom came to the conclusion that the RT channel violated broadcasting rules. Later, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the Russian authorities “repeatedly had questions” about the BBC’s materials about events in Russia and Syria.

In addition, at the end of December, an anonymous person published online a list of BBC journalists working in Russia. This happened after The Times newspaper published data from employees of the Edinburgh bureau of the Russian agency Sputnik . Later, the BBC said that some of the published data about their employees was not publicly available, but it was at the disposal of the Russian authorities.
