US sanctions jeopardize the production of the MC-21 aircraft

The US sanctions against JSC Aerocomposite and JSC ONPP Tekhnologiya named after Romashin jeopardized the creation of a composite "black wing" for a key promising project in the Russian civil aviation industry - the MS-21 aircraft. According to Kommersant , a number of components for composites used for the wing and part of the keel came from the United States and Japan, but recently, under pressure from Washington, shipments stopped. We are talking about components produced by American Hexcel and Japanese Toray Industries.

The MS-21 is to become the first medium-haul aircraft built in post-Soviet Russia, and the elongated composite wing is one of its competitive advantages. It increases the efficiency of the machine and increases the width of the cabin compared to analogues from Boeing and Airbus. Now three prototypes of the MS-21-300 with the "American" thread are ready, the fourth aircraft is under assembly. The Accounts Chamber estimated the entire project at 438 billion rubles.

Among the options for solving the problem, the source of the newspaper calls the transition to Chinese composites, “which are twice as thick and heavier, or wait until Russian enterprises can create something similar, and this will lead to a shift in terms until at least 2025.” Rostec calls the problem “far-fetched”: “There are reliable foreign suppliers of composites, there are own developments. In any case, the aircraft industry will not be left without the necessary materials, the refusal to use composites in the MS-21 is not even considered.
