Siberia was recognized as less Orthodox than the European part of Russia

The financial university under the Government of the Russian Federation has issued a study on the involvement of the population in Orthodox culture. Siberian cities became outsiders, gaining no more than a quarter of active believers.

The most Orthodox city of Siberia was Novosibirsk. There, 26% of respondents said that among their friends and acquaintances there are people who are actively involved in Orthodox life. It became the 46th of 76 studied cities. The first in Russia was Belgorod with 51% of active believers.

The smallest share of active Orthodox in Siberia (18%) was found in Ulan-Ude. The capital of Buryatia was overtaken only by Yakutsk, Makhachkala and formidable.

According to the authors, the study was conducted in cities with a population of more than 250 thousand people. On average, 34% of respondents said that among their acquaintances there are people who constantly visit the Orthodox services and communities participating in life. Also, 1% of the investigated ones spoke about the presence of active Catholics and 2% of the Protestants in their circle.
