Russian Olympic Committee: Alexander Zubkov must step down as head of the Bobsleigh Federation after doping disqualification

The Russian Olympic Committee will ask the Russian Bobsleigh Federation to "immediately" comply with the IBSF's demand that Alexander Zubkov step down as president. This was announced by the head of the ROC, Stanislav Pozdnyakov.

“I hope that we will be able to resolve the problem through joint efforts in a working manner, otherwise all activities of the ROC and interaction with international sports organizations may be undermined,” he said.

• On January 16, the IBSF disqualified Zubkov and three other bobsledders, Alexander Kasyanov, Ilvir Khuzin and Alexey Pushkarev, for two years. The reason was that they allegedly participated in the substitution of doping samples in 2014. By decision of the IBSF, Zubkov is prohibited from holding administrative positions.
• The athletes were previously banned from participating in the Olympics; their results at Sochi 2014 were annulled.
• Zubkov succeeded in the Moscow City Court in having the Court of Arbitration for Sport's decision to declare him a violator of anti-doping rules and disqualify him in Russia considered "invalid". The Russian Olympic Committee opposed the athlete in court.
