In St. Petersburg, the director of the Chinese Academy of Arts was convicted of trying to take out of Russia the painting “Lenin at the Congress of Poor People’s Commissars”

The Moscow District Court of St. Petersburg sentenced the director of the Heilongjiang Academy of Arts in Harbin, Chen Fengyue, and his employee Chen Dong to two years in a general regime colony each in the case of attempting to illegally export paintings from Russia. This was reported in the telegram channel of the press service of the courts of St. Petersburg.

Fengyue and Dong bought for an exhibition in Harbin the sketches “Lenin at the Congress of Poor Committees” by the artist Friedman worth about 50 thousand rubles, “Lenin with the Red Army soldiers at the map” by the artist Tokarev worth about 66 thousand rubles, the sketch “The Shepherd Boy” by Solomin for 50 thousand rubles, a painting “Portrait of a Woman with a Pomegranate Pendant” by Ioganson worth 1.5 million rubles. Then, according to investigators, they decided to illegally take them out by hiding them in their luggage. The paintings were discovered during an inspection.

The defendants admitted guilt. The paintings were confiscated to the state.
