Motorama: "The good is that the youth is different"

Ask a foreigner what group from Russia he knows, and he will most likely call Motorama . Strict rockers from Rostov-on-Don released five albums on the French Talitres label (the latter, Many Nights, came out last year) and traveled to Europe, Latin America and even China. On the eve of the new Motorama concert tour, which will begin in Russia-January 25 at Cosmonaut (St. Petersburg) and on January 26 in the "Chapters of the Chairman of the Club Green Concert" (Moscow)-Alexander Nurabaev discussed with the leader of the group Vlad Parshin why their music is loved abroad.

- In the schedule of the tour, which you open with concerts in St. Petersburg and Moscow, only three Russian cities and about a dozen European ones. In the fall, you had a big France tour with the presentation of the same album. It turns out that Motorama is more in demand and popular in the West than in Russia?

“I think yes.”

- How many people on average come to you in France and how much in Russia?

- Depends on the place of the concert. In France - from the city. Usually the organizers try to make the club be completely filled, but depends on the place. We played in France and Paris in different clubs - both large and smaller. Usually there were many people - up to 500 people, for our group it is a lot. In Moscow, it can come more, like in Latin America, up to a thousand people. There were also a lot of people in China.

- At Motorama Was there a tour of China? I did not know. Was it a big tour?

- Yes, there were six cities in China, two concerts in Japan, one concert in Hong Kong and one in Taiwan.

- Is the Russian public very different from Asian, Latin American and European?

- In Russia, the audience is younger. Visitors to our concerts in Russia from 16 to 30 years old, maybe a little more. People go in Europe and are much older. In Latin America, the situation is similar to the Russian - youth walks. In Asia, also young people. In Europe, probably the oldest audience.

-With a fairly successful western career, you remain to live in Rostov-on-Don. Never visited the thought of moving?

- No, there is simply no reason for this. All the most important thing here is here. And it makes no sense to move to Moscow, to another country - even more so. We never thought about it.

- Will they recognize you on the streets in Rostov?

- No.

- Never?

- Almost never.

- What is interesting now on the Rostov alternative stage?

- To be honest, I don't know for sure. I do not follow what is happening in Rostov music, it seems to me that nothing happens. There are groups with which we are friends - for example, Aerofall , playing Shugesing. They record a new album.

- Do you follow modern Russian music?

- Sometimes we listen to familiarization. And not to say that we are watching everything specially.

-With someone, maybe you are friends, do you correspond?

- We have long communicated with the guys from Aerofall - for example, with Vova Karpov, with Zhora from the Trud group, from time to time - with Daniel and Denis from the Pompeya group: we have known each other since 2007 and maintain relations. I would say that we are a group rather isolated from Moscow and St. Petersburg parties.

- You release albums on the French Talitres label , which plays a decisive role in your European career. How did your acquaintance happen?

- We had a concert in Tallinn in 2012, we were invited there from the filing of Kirill Sorokin (he is now engaged in the Beat festival). And this concert came to a Frenchman who controls this label. After the concert, he wrote to us a letter that he would like to publish an old album or a new, upcoming one. We looked at which groups were published on this label, and agreed.

- What kind of relationship with the label do you have? Do you have contractual obligations?

- We have a friendly relationship and there is no obligation. Since we have known each other for many years, we, in my opinion, have not even signed any documents for some notes-probably this will come around someday. Pretty informal relationships. The level at which the leader is engaged in the label is approximately similar to how we are engaged in the group. They have a small semi -male label with two employees, its director himself goes to the mail and sends records around the world.

“So no one drives the deadlines for the release of albums or singles?”

- If we decide that we would like to release the album this year, I write to the director of this label and say that we would like to release the album. He offers the date, and I say: "Yes, by this time he will be ready." And we try to adhere to the schedule in order to do everything.

- And you always have time?

- Yes, sometimes it happens before, they never did it later.

- I wanted to talk separately about your popularity in Latin America - they know you well and are waiting with concerts in Mexico, Brazil, Peru. How would you explain the love of hot Latin guys and girls for the melancholy post -tank that you perform?

- I think that in Mexico, Peru, Chile and Argentina, music of this kind is very popular: a new wave, postpank, music with similar harmony and such a type of singing are popular there. I don’t know exactly why this is so, I can only assume. There, people often react to music very emotionally. For them, she means a lot, helps someone in life. They experience songs, melodies, texts, and all this is very important to them. It seems to me that in Russia such music is popular because people are experiencing songs and we have something in common in mentality with guys from Latin America.

- Did you have bright stories during the tour of Latin America?

-Something happened. Probably some poisoning or insect bites.

- And from the tourist impressions, what did you remember?

- Latin America is very different, different people and nature. Each place has interesting points. In Mexico, it is interesting to go to the Pyramids of Teotiuacan. In Peru you can go to the mountains or just take a walk in the capital - Lima. Try local cuisine, rare fruits, go to the ocean.

- What is happening now with your Russian -language projects - “Morning”, “Summer in the city”, “TPP”? ”

-A few days ago, the second mini-album “TPP” came out. Further, we planned some concerts - at the Pain festival will be the concerts of the morning and “TPP” on different days. I do some kind of songs all the time.

- How do you deliberate your many projects for yourself? Is there a main or beloved? Or does an idea come up with a melody - and you immediately understand what project it is for?

- Yes, I do so. When there is time to make music, I play something and determine where I can apply it.

- Share your last musical discoveries.

- We need to think. Of the relatively new groups - “cut on the dog”, a group from the participants of “4 positions of Bruno”. Basically, I listen to the old music, not so long ago I discovered Huun-Huuur-Tu-a folk group from Tuva. Sometimes songs that passed me come up: it seems that I used to listen to the album of "sailor", and the song " Platonic Suicide ” did not pay attention - but now I am surprised how beautifully it is made like that Smiths . I have a comrade from the Aerofall group - Vova Karpov. He has a library of various rare music. He can put something, and I listen with surprise a rare electronic song by Hermann Dizhko, the rarity of Infantile Cans or "satellite east." Some discoveries from the past are constantly taking place.

- Yes.

- I read it, we discussed him a little with the guys from the group and acquaintances. It seems to me that the era “Mumiy Troll” and Zemfira, which is mentioned there, left in 2006-2007, only this does not apply to the Leningrad group: it seems like a group of that time, and their time, unfortunately, just came. I am not a fan of this "era". I am only for her to leave as soon as possible and never return. What other moments were in this text?

-Among other things, it was said that now the spirit of time expresses the mentioned festival “Pain”, and more recently it was a cultural-park “Picnic“ Poster ”.” And that the ball is now rule completely different artists - idols of modern teenagers .

- The pain festival for me in terms of artists now looks like a fresh “Picnic“ Afisha ””, but they probably have a different target audience: “Picnic” has always been a family festival, “pain” - more informal, youth. This year, in addition to foreign groups, there will be many interesting old teams - let's say, the Bakh combined, “Cosmetics Research Institute”, “4 positions of Bruno”. But all these groups such as “LSP”, “vulgar Molly”, IC 3 Peak , Shortparis , many artists near the program “Evening Urgant” and “Vedud”, new rappers - they and our environment are all disgusting. Fortunately, the youth is different and a lot of erudite and brought up children in normal music, whom you can’t take this rubbish.
