The Leninsky District Court of Cheboksary ruled to release the volunteer of Alexei Navalny's headquarters, Alexei Mirnov. This was reported to OVD-Info by the lawyer of the International Human Rights Group "Agora" Yuri Ivanov, representing the interests of Mironov.
“The court granted our petition to bring Mironov’s sentence in line with the new criminal law, which eliminates the criminality of the act,” Ivanov said.
According to him, Mironov is expected to be released on February 2.
In December 2018, part one of Article 282 of the Criminal Code on inciting hatred or hostility was partially decriminalized . Now criminal liability should come only after a repeated violation. The first should be considered within the framework of the Code of Administrative Offenses.
Aleksey Mironov was sentenced to two years and three months in a colony-settlement for incitement to extremism (part 2 of article 280 of the Criminal Code) and inciting hatred (part 1 of article 282 of the Criminal Code) because of posts on the VKontakte social network. The investigation considered that they contained calls for a change of power.
